Sweet Aval Pidi Khozukhattai ( steamed Poha/avalakki) dumplings

Sweet Aval Pidi Kozhukattai is a traditional South Indian steamed dumpling made with flattened rice (poha), jaggery, and coconut. This dish is often prepared as a Naivedyam (offering) during festivals, especially for Lord Ganesha. The process involves coarsely grinding poha, melting jaggery in water, and mixing it with coconut, cardamom, and ghee to form a dough. The dough is then shaped using the palm and steamed until glossy, resulting in a soft, mildly sweet treat that is both nutritious and delicious.

This Kozhukattai is a gluten-free snack that provides a good balance of carbohydrates and iron, making it a healthy option for all ages. The natural sweetness of jaggery enhances the flavor while also offering health benefits such as improved digestion and energy boost. The simplicity of ingredients and preparation makes it a popular choice for festive occasions and everyday snacks alike. Whether enjoyed warm with a drizzle of ghee or as a light evening treat, Sweet Aval Pidi Kozhukattai is a delightful combination of tradition and taste.
