2008, the year that was and a look ahead

December for me is an exciting month of the year. Even though the days are shorter and colder than usual, the spirit of the holidays lingers on; it is hard to ignore the excitement going around. But as days draw closer to the end of the month and as the clock resets to a new year  and, it is but natural to reflect back on the things that happened the past year, ponder over the what if’s and also hope for an exciting and  fruitful next year.   These last few days I have been pondering about what 2008 has…

Non-food: Rush Hour Mornings, Traffic jams and Murphy’s Law

You know Murphy’s Law “Whatever can go wrong will go wrong, and at the worst possible time, in the worst possible way” (Source:Wiki). Now this adage fits the Rush hour mornings and Traffic jams like a glove. It is the same old story of traffic jam, but a new twist is thrown in every morning to keep things from getting dull and boring.   Who says that only PMS and in-laws can set you in a bad mood?  Monday: The coveted weekend is over and you are in a grouchy mood already. It does not help that you have a…

Random Facts Meme and 50th post

This is also my 50th post on this blog. I wanted to thank you all for the warmth and support, and that is what keeps me going and makes me want to write more and cook  more. It is really fun thinking, writing about myself and here is some random stuff about me: A strange coincidence: everyone in my family (except my husband) was born on the 10th (different years, of course). I was born on March 10th, my Dad September 10th, MIL and my toddler October 10th, my mom and brother November 10th. I can speak quite a few…

You know your husband is obsessed with tea when ….

He has at least 17 different varieties of tea, green tea, rice tea, jasmine tea, rose tea, mango tea etc 8 books on tea, 2 videos, countless print outs on the benefits of tea, tea maker, innumerable tea cups, glasses, 5 tea strainers, tea bags all this and more! But did I mention NO black tea? He returns back from his business trip to Toronto one late Thursday evening and after a while goes to empty his suitcase. You hear sounds of paper shuffling, stuff taken out, re-arranging etc. You get curious and take a peek; you see two paper…

Weekend Non-food: The case of the missing cell phone charger

Talk about starting the week on a wrong foot and Yours Truly was a victim of this adage this week. It all started Monday morning when I discovered that I had lost my cell phone charger.  Since then I have maniacally searched every nook and corner, turned everything upside down at home, at work, but still no trace of it.  The charger has literally developed wings and disappeared from the face of the earth. Finally unable to bear the dying, gasping sounds from the phone I put my dear cell phone to “rest”.  I feel so lost without my…

You know you have a toddler at home when ….

Ø      You receive a mysterious voice message, showering you with expletives and threatening you with dire consequences if you ever call back again. After you recover from the initial shock you wonder if it were a crank call, a new advertising gimmick, or an insane person and blatantly wonder how could have such a thing happened to an ethical, law abiding citizen such as yourself?. You mentally prepare for the next steps, when you see a little fellow not more than 3 feet walking with a phone, sporting a serious look and punching in some numbers.  Ø      You boot your…

Wednesday Morning Blues

Arrgh! It is Wednesday morning and it is not enough that you are going through a mid-week crisis, but so many things don’t seem to fall in place anymore. All those lowly things that you didn’t think of much earlier seem to develop a mind of their own.  First it is those Tupperware containers. Overnight the lids seem to develop a dislike for the containers and decide to part ways and disappear. Come Wednesday morning and you find yourself with 5 containers but NO lids. Go figure! The weighing scale, the less said the better. I always suspect that it…
