I usually enjoy the drive back home from work sans the traffic of course. That is the time when I am done with the major grind of the day; away from the noise, tension, pressure, people etc. That is the time when I am by myself in the closed environment, surrounded my soft music feeling cozy with just the right temperature, not too warm or too cold.
After falling into the everyday rhythm of driving and seeing the familiar surroundings, my thoughts about work fade away, the rough edges of the pressure, tension soothed by the music, my left brain function is put to rest and the right brain activity catches on. That is the time when my mind mentally goes over the stuff in the fridge, pantry and come up with a plan for dinner.
There are days when I get ideas for easy and delicious dishes that I just cannot wait to get home to try out. There are many things to look forward to when I get home my family, my home and cooking. The drive home becomes so much pleasanter and all of a sudden shorter too.
Ingredients
-
1 big onion
-
3 medium tomatoes
-
2-3 green chillies
-
2 cloves garlic
-
Chilli powder
-
4-5 curry leaves
-
Turmeric
-
Mustard
-
2-3 tsps Rasam powder (optional)
-
Oil
-
Corriander leaves for garnishing

Salt to taste
Preparation:
-
Chop the onions and tomatoes into small pieces and keep aside.
-
Crush the garlic and chop it into pieces. Slit the green chillies into 2 halves as well.
Method:
-
Take a heavy bottom pan; add about 2 Tbsps of oil. Add mustard and let it splutter.
-
Add diced garlic, mix it well and let it turn brown. Then add curry leaves, green chillies and diced onions.
-
After the onions are sautéed and turned transparent, add salt and turmeric and mix well.
-
Mix in the tomatoes and let it cook for a while on high heat. After the tomatoes are cooked and dried a bit, add the rasam powder, more oil and mix.
-
Finally garnish with chopped corriander leaves.
Serve with Rotis/ phulkas or as an accompaniment with Rice.
You do love driving! I am opposite, I don’t want to sit in that car driving unless I have to!:D
May be because I am cozy at home and I don’t want to go into the chaos. I do understand how you feel!
Gojju looks delicious. Must taste good with dosas. I made Bihari dishes at FH this week!:)
Wow they looks super delicious. I saw the first pic and drool was in my mouth and then i was busy reading the recipe and then came to the last pic i had to take a hankey to wipe the drool which was comming…..
I hope you are going to come out with much more of your drool dishes. I hope you are working six days in a week 🙂 so i can expect much more dishes from you :-)))))
I always make this tokku, never added garlic and rasam powder though. Will try it next time.
Gojju is my fav side dish, like to have with everthing. Looks delicious RC.
I love gojjus and the tomato one goes with everything, doesn’t it?! Looks delicious! What we call thokku is almost like pickle but instead of chunky pieces like in a pickle, the main ingerdient (mango, tomato) is either chopped fine or minced.
Just a look and I can say this will be yummy!! the combo sounds nice:)
