Masala Peanuts is a very easy snack to make and that too with simple ingredients on hand. These can be made anytime of the year and not just during Diwali. They are crunchy, spicy and will be gone in no time. This is a great treat when it is cloudy and rainy or while watching movies, with tea and just plain snacking.
Note: Off late I have not been visiting other blogs or commenting as much as I used to earlier and the reason for that is I have forcefully reduced the amount of time I spend in front of the laptop.
Lately I have been experiencing some headaches and backaches (nothing serious) and so as a precautionary measure I plan to scale down my laptop time. At work I inevitably spend at least 8-9 hours in front of the computer in a day, so the only other option is to give up the luxury at home. I intend to continue with the 1-2 posts per week that I usually do here but with shorter content. I hope my fellow bloggers and readers will understand and continue on with their support. Thanks.
Ingredients:
- 1.5 cups groundnuts/peanuts/kadlekayi (raw and shelled)
- 2 Tbsp gram flour/besan
- 1 tsp red chili powder (add more if you like it spicy)
- ¼ tsp turmeric (optional)
- Salt (to taste)
- Oil
Method:
- In a big plate spread the peanuts and sprinkle little water on it.
- Now in a small dry bowl mix together the gram flour (besan), salt, turmeric and the red chili powder. Keep aside.
- Sprinkle this prepared powder over the wet peanuts and mix well, so that the powder forms a coating over the peanuts. While mixing make sure the peanuts do not stick together and form a lump. Let it remain as separate as possible.
- Take a frying pan and heat oil in it for deep frying.
- Deep fry the coated peanuts in hot oil. (If the peanuts are stuck together separate them with your fingers before putting in oil.)
- Transfer to a plate covered with paper/paper towel. This will absorb as much oil.
- After it has cooled a bit transfer to air tight container.
Its my fav snack. the peanuts looks so perfect.

Only yest I was going through savoury snacks for Diwali and here u r with a treat…Can we not microwave it RC? Anyways looks crispy and perfect
Supriya, you will not believe this but I made something similar today at home with a friend. The only difference is I used almost 3 cups of besan to 1.5 cups of peanuts! Though mine turned out ok, I think I am liking your version better. They looks more appetizing as well. 🙂
Oops, I didn’t realize you deep fried these. My version is oven baked but I am thinking I may try your recipe and try to bake it in the oven. Do you think it will work?

Lovely snack to munch on! Looks so crispy..
Thank you all for the comments.
Jaya, I have never tried baking this before and you have given me a healthy idea. I will give it a try sometime soon. IMHO 3 cups is a bit too much for 1.5 cups of peanut. In this method, the mixture should form a light coating.
Sharmilee, Suma: I think microwaving is a cool idea. I remember seeing it on some blogs earlier. Microwaving obviously is much healthier.
Look yummy!!
I remember those masala peanuts– they are totally delicious. Thanks for posting this, RC!
